The latest report of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) however indicates a downward prevalence rate. The figure for Tanzania is 2.2 million from a population of 38 million. Uganda 's 30 million people has one million affected while Germany, with the biggest population in Europe at over 80 million people, just has 50,000 infected persons. Dr. Regina Goergen, global health/HIV expert advised Nigeria to take a cue from countries like Uganda, Thailand and Senegal "where the fight against HIV and AIDS has proved successful because the initial fears were eliminated while the political will remained unwavering in giving it a straight fight."
